Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only half a year following leading disrespectful songs targeting their manager, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has signed a deal with the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds was ended amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds included starting insulting chants about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past History Involving Bamford and the Manager
The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
All appears has been resolved with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.
The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
