Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” Slot stated.

“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with performances this poor.”

Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
