The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
