The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
