Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial championship series after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."

Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, making him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I want up in that situation besides him with his October magic," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.

Toronto claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
