UK Prepared to Utilize Immobilized Russia's Holdings to Fund Ukraine's Military Campaign

The British government is prepared to move forward with utilizing the full worth of frozen Russia's funds to bolster Ukraine's military campaign, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to come to the table.

They further noted that the initiative would be executed in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom sanctions have blocked more than £25bn of Russia's assets since Moscow initiated its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, up to this point, money allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had solely been drawn from earnings and returns accrued on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their goal to push forward toward employing the total worth of the seized Russia's state holdings to halt hostilities.

He stated that additional measures over the next period would apply more pressure on the Russian government.

This statement comes after EU representatives gathered in Copenhagen recently to discuss employing frozen Russian funds for a €140bn credit to Ukraine.

Recently, US President Donald Trump urged international partners to take or otherwise use seized Russia's funds, as reported by media sources.

The total of seized Russia's assets in the EU is estimated to be approximately €211bn.

President Zelensky encourages Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to join the Purl programme

Russia executed extensive missile and drone strikes throughout the Ukrainian territory on Friday, causing electricity outages in large parts of Kyiv, Kyiv, and eight other regions.

A pair of individuals were killed and no fewer than 20 people were injured in the attack, Ukrainian officials reported.

In a update on social media after the incident, Zelensky stated that the cynical and calculated attack targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What is required is not mere statements but decisive action - from the America, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in delivering air defence systems and enforcing sanctions," he wrote.

"Each restrictive measure undermines Russia's war machine," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

Also on Friday, Zelensky stated to media outlets he would press Sir Keir to enter the weapons procurement programme, under which alliance members acquire military equipment from the US to donate to the Ukrainian forces.

While praising the Britain's strong support for Kyiv, he remarked it should indicate firmly that it would take part in the system, as well as enforce further measures on Russia.
